MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Morehead State baseball lost 5-3 against Georgetown College Wednesday afternoon at Allen Field.
Three fielding errors proved costly for MSU (2-15), as they allowed three unearned runs to come across the dish.
The Tigers (11-11) jumped out to an early lead following a lead-off double by centerfielder Chris Wood and a run-scoring single up the middle by right fielder Tyler Fisher.
Fisher led all Georgetown College hitters with four hits and three RBI.
Junior Josh Schneider started the game for the Eagles yielding four runs over six innings, only one of which was earned. He took the loss for MSU, his third of the season.
Georgetown College scored another run in the top of the third inning. The inning began with consecutive put-outs before a fielding error by second baseman Travis Redmon. Redmon's error followed by back-to-back singles extended the Tiger's lead to 2-0.
Runs in the fifth and sixth inning drove the Tigers' lead to 4-0 before the Eagles scored their first runs in the bottom half of the seventh. Michael Fear and Daniel Pugh recorded back-to-back singles for MSU. Pugh scored the Eagles first run of the game on a passed ball. Right fielder Luke Bainer drove in the final run of the inning on an RBI single up the middle which brought the Georgetown lead to two runs, 4-2.
Travis McBride, the Tigers' starter, tossed seven innings allowing only one earned run. Closer Chad Richie earned the save, his third of the season.
The Eagle offense rallied again in the ninth following a Georgetown run in the top of the inning. Pugh began the inning with a walk and catcher Eric Bainer took his base after being hit by a pitch from reliever Matt Smith. Luke Bainer came to the plate following a fly out to right and hammered a single through the left side driving in MSU's third and final run.
Luke Bainer tied Pugh with three hits apiece on the day and drove in two Eagle runs. Pugh extended his hit streak to 10 games.
The Eagles face Miami (Ohio) at Allen field this weekend. The three-game series will consist of a Saturday doubleheader and Sunday single-game finale. Both games have a tentative 1 p.m. first pitch.
