ATHENS, Ohio -- Morehead State softball lost a pair of games at Ohio University Wednesday. The Eagles were the victims of a perfect game in the opener, losing 10-0 in five innings. MSU had an eight-run lead in the sixth vanish before dropping a 13-12 contest in the nightcap.
In game two, senior third baseman Rebecca Butler and sophomore first baseman Amber Riddle each hit two home runs, and freshman second baseman Stephanie Etter also smashed a homer, but the Bobcats erased a 9-1 Eagle lead by scoring 12 runs over the final two innings.
Riddle, Butler, Elizabeth Wagner and Kayla Ashbrook each had two hits, and Riddle and Butler both recorded four RBI each. For Butler, it marked the second straight season she had a multi-home run game at Ohio.
Four Eagle errors led to seven of the Bobcats' runs being unearned.
Freshman Kelcey McMurray was in control for the first five innings, but the momentum evaporated in the sixth. She finished the game allowing 10 hits and eight runs, but only three were earned.
Junior Ashley Imperial was hit with the loss as she allowed the game-winning single in the seventh. After watching a 9-1 lead diminish to just 9-8 after the sixth, the Eagles scored three times in the top of the seventh to put themselves back in position to win, leading 12-8. But OU managed to plate five more scores in the bottom of the seventh.
In the opener, Emily Wethington tossed a five-inning perfect game against MSU. She struck out eight of the minimum 15 batters she faced.
Ohio scored nine runs in the second inning to bust the contest open.
Imperial did make it out of the second inning, surrendering 10 runs on nine hits. Ashley Boyd pitched the final 2.1 and did not allow a run.
MSU travels to Jacksonville State this weekend for a three-game OVC series.
