JACKSONVILLE, Ala. –
The Morehead State softball team dropped a pair of games to OVC foe Jacksonville State on the road Saturday. The Eagles fell 10-3 in game one and dropped a 12-9 decision in the nightcap.

The Eagles fell to 9-15 and 3-2 in the OVC, while JSU ran its win streak to 10 games, improving to 18-6 and 5-0.

In the opener, MSU’s Rebecca Butler hit her 23rd career home-run, a three-run smash, but the Gamecocks homered four times off three MSU pitchers.

Ashley Imperial (5-8) was saddled with the loss for the Eagles, while Tiffany Harbin (11-4) won by striking out 12 MSU batters in a complete-game effort.

Butler was 2-for-3. Her three-run homer generated MSU’s only runs as she cut a 6-0 JSU lead in half in the top of the third inning.

MSU’s offense had 13 hits in the second game, including a home run by Anna Sommer, but the Gamecock offense had a six-run fourth inning and a three-run fifth inning to lead 11-6 after five.

Ashley Boyd allowed four runs in the first 3.1 innings to take the loss and fall to 0-3. MSU used all four pitchers in the game.

Sam Woodall was 3-for-5, Amber Riddle was 2-for-3, and Kayla Brill was 2-for-4 to lead MSU’s hitters. Three JSU hitters had three hits apiece.

MSU and JSU will finish the series on Sunday at 2 p.m. EDT.
