CHARLESTON, Ill.--Morehead State tennis swept a men's-women's tennis doubleheader Sunday over Ohio Valley Conference foe Eastern Illinois. Both teams won 5-2, taking four singles matches and the doubles point.
On the women's side, the Eagles improved to 2-2 in OVC play and 8-9 overall. Alix Young won a three-set battle at No. 1 singles 6-3, 2-6, 6-4. Jessica Montemayor won thanks to a retirement and Lauren Delaney and Brooke Helms each won their singles matches in two sets.
Madeleinne Antero and Helms won at No. 1 doubles and Montemayor and Dulaney won at No. 2 doubles to earn the double point for the Eagles.
For the men, MSU got singles wins at No. 4 through No. 6 by Seve Day, David Clifford, Nathan Martin, and Roger White. Lovell Medcalf and Bradley Bryan won at No. 1 doubles and Hugo Almonte and White won at No. 2 doubles to earn the first Eagle point.
It was the first OVC win of the season for the Morehead State, which improved to 7-5 overall and 101 in the OVC,
Both MSU teams will host OVC rival Jacksonville State Friday at 10 a.m.
