NASHVILLE, Tenn.--For the third time in the past three years, Morehead State men’s basketball will play in the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament Finals. The Eagles will face their third different opponent in that stretch, playing fourth-seeded Tennessee Tech at 8 p.m. The game will be televised on ESPN2 and be available online at ESPN3.
Morehead State dispatched third-seeded Austin Peay (MSU’s 2009 title game opponent) in Friday night’s semifinals. The Eagles won 68-49 in dominating fashion, scoring the games’ first 10 points. MSU improved its record to 23-9 overall with the win.
Demonte Harper was outstanding, scoring 25 points to lead MSU and Kenneth Faried dominated the glass with 21 rebounds to go with 12 points for his 83rd career double-double.
Saturday’s finals opponent, Tennessee Tech, is the surprise entrant. Seeded fourth with a high-flying potent offensive attack, the Golden Eagles shocked Murray State (Morehead State’s 2010 title game opponent) with a 64-59 win over Murray State. Led by talented Kevin Murphy, who had 19 points and Jud Dillard who finished with a 14-point, 11-rebound double-double against the Racers, TTU will be a tough opponent.
MSU defeated the Golden Eagles in both matchups earlier this season, winning by 12 in Morehead and 16 in Cookeville, but with a 20-11 overall record and a conference stretch that put them in a position to finish in the top 2 late in the season, Tech will be a formidable opponent to the Eagles.
