Softball Drops Series Finale at UT Martin

MARTIN, Tenn. —
Host UT Martin used some late-inning offense to hand the Morehead State softball team a 6-2 defeat Sunday at Bettye Giles Field.

UTM (24-14/13-3 OVC) scored three runs after the third inning while holding the Eagles to just three hits in the final four to sweep the series from MSU (12-27/6-12 OVC).

The Skyhawks scored to grab an early 2-0 lead. Amanda Brandenburg hit an RBI double, and Kate Vanderham added an RBI single before being thrown out at first on a rundown on the play.

The Eagles tied it up in the top of the fourth. Rebecca Butler led off with a single to right field after fouling off 10 consecutive pitches. After a strikeout, Amber Riddle launched her fifth home run of the year off the scoreboard in left field.

UTM grabbed the lead back in the bottom of the fourth. The Eagles turned a double play, but the Skyhawks totaled three singles in between to score a run. Chelsea Cary drove in Megan Latimer.

The Skyhawks increased the lead in the bottom of the fifth. Jordan Garrett lined an RBI double into the left field corner to score pinch runner Kayla Wade. Brandenburg then lined a two-run home over the right field fence to make it 6-2.

Woodall led the Eagles with two hits as MSU had six for the game. Brandenburg led UTM with two hits and three RBI.

MSU is scheduled to travel to University of Dayton for a doubleheader on Wednesday.
