RICHMOND, Ky. --
Morehead State baseball team lost the final game of the Ohio Valley Conference weekend set against arch rival Eastern Kentucky, 5-0, Saturday afternoon at Turkey Hughes Field.

EKU (14-22, 6-6 OVC) first baseman A.J. Jamison brought home the first run of the contest in the third inning on a ground out to short that drove in catcher Sean Hagan. Hagan led off the third inning for the Colonels with a single.

Left fielder Jacob Daniel and Michael Garcia each hit solo home runs over the left field wall in the sixth inning to extend the EKU lead to three runs. Garcia led EKU batters going 2-for-3 with three RBI including two long balls, his second home run a two-run shot off reliever Josh Schneider in the eighth inning.

Senior Stephen Hefler started the game for the Colonels and pitched 8.2 innings, mystifying Eagle batters. He recorded eight strikeouts and allowed only four MSU hits.

MSU lefty Noah Smallwood pitched well through the first five frames before running into a sixth inning roadblock. Smallwood took the loss, his fourth of the season.

Morehead State (5-28, 1-6 OVC) recorded four hits in the game. Catcher Eric Bainer went 1-for-2 with a double and two walks to lead MSU.

The Eagles hit the road Tuesday and travel to Bloomington, Ind., to face Indiana for the second time this season. The game is a 3:05 p.m. EDT scheduled first pitch.
