Eagle Rally Not Enough as Baseball Falls 10-8 at SEMO

Morehead, Ky. -- The Morehead State baseball team mounted a late charge that came up short as the Eagles fell to Southeast Missouri 10-8 Saturday in Cape Girardeau, Missouri.

Morehead State (16-18, 4-7 OVC) trailed 10-6 heading to the top of the ninth inning. Catcher Caden Sheridan shot a one-out single through the left side. After a foul out, shortstop Jaden Correa drilled a liner over the fence in left field to cut the lead to 10-8, the final score.

The teams both put up a solo run in the third. Ian McCubbin smacked a home run to right, his eighth clout of the season. Southeast Missouri scored on a one-out single, followed by a double to make the score 8-2.

The Eagles and Redhawks again both put up single runs in the fifth. Aubrey Kearns led off with a single. Nick Griffith followed with a one-out single through the right side. Davis German plated Kearns with an RBI single to center. The Redhawks put out the rally with a double play on a grounder to shortstop.

MSU again threatened a big inning in the sixth. Brayton Coomer, Correa and Griffin Olson each drew walks to lead off the frame. SEMO turned another grounder into a double play, with Coomer scoring. Kearns singled to drive in Correa, but the Eagles couldn't keep the inning alive.

The Eagles added a run in the seventh when Germann drew a one-out walk, advanced to second on a ground-out and scored on Coomer's single to left-center.

Morehead State's first run came in the second. Germann led off with a double into left field and scored on Sheridan's single to center.

MSU starter Kamden Hawks (2-4) took the loss.

SEMO's Ranard Grace (2-0) earned the win out of the bullpen, getting the final two outs in the top of the fifth inning. He walked three Eagle batters and allowed two runs. Jackson Kranawetter (7) threw the last two innings for the Redhawks, earning the save.
