Softball Drops Nailbiter at Tech, 1-0

BOX SCORE

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. —
Morehead State softball left 11 runners on base and only gave up three hits, but the Eagles dropped a 1-0 contest in the series finale at Tennessee Tech Saturday.

The Eagles fell to 19-29 and 10-14 in the OVC, while Tech moved to 18-24 and 9-14 in the league race.

The teams remained scoreless for the first four frames. Tech finally broke the stalemate in the bottom of the fifth inning on a solo homer to left field by pitcher Holly Thomas which proved to be the lone run of the game.

The Eagles had a solid opportunity to score in the top of the sixth, but with bases loaded and one out, Thomas coaxed a grounder for a force out at the plate and a ground out to second base. MSU also had the bases loaded in the seventh inning but could not push across a run.

Kelcey McMurray (10-10) took the loss despite only surrendering three hits and striking out five. Thomas (12-8) gave up just four hits to the Eagles while fanning four.

Rebecca Butler had a single to extend her hitting streak to 22 games, while Sam Woodall also extended a hit streak to 10 with a single. Kayla Ashbrook stretched her hitting streak to nine with a safety as well.

Morehead State travels to Ohio State on Friday night for a doubleheader starting at 5 p.m. EDT.
