PINEHURST, N.C.—Morehead State women’s golf finished fifth, just six strokes out of the top three Tuesday at the Pinehurst Challenge, played at the Par 72, 5,981-yard Pinehurst No. 6.
MSU shot a 951 (318-312-321) in the three-round, 54-hole tournament, placing just two strokes behind fourth-place Samford and six behind Jacksonville State, who finished third with a 944. JSU was the only other Ohio Valley Conference team at the event.
Sophomore Marisa Kamelgarn finished tied for sixth with a 232 (79-75-78) and senior Paige Lausier tied for 11th overall and second for the Eagles with a 235 (76-80-79).
Freshman Sofia Pettersson shot a 242 (80-79-83) to tie for 28th overall. Freshman Amalie Munck and junior Emma Jonsson each carded a 244 to tie for 32nd overall. Munck shot an 83-78-83 and Jonsson an 83-80-81.
Host College of Charleston won the tournament with a 913 (310-305-298), 12 strokes better than second-place Minnesota. CofC’s Leigh Whittaker took home medalist honors with a 219 (73-75-71).
Morehead State’s final tournament before the OVC Tournament will be next week’s EKU Lady Colonel Classic. The Eagles will play Arlington Golf Course in Richmond, Ky. April 9-10.
