Eagle Volleyball Sweeps Marshall in Saturday Matinee

MOREHEAD, Ky. --
Junior Ellie Roberson followed up her 21-kill night Friday with another 21 kills Saturday against Marshall, and Aryn Bohannon added 12 spikes as the Morehead State volleyball team defeated the Thundering Herd, 3-0 (25-23, 32-30, 25-17) at Wetherby Gym.

MSU improved to 1-1 while Marshall finished the MSU Eagle Challenge Tournament at 0-2.

Roberson led all players in kills and also was extremely efficient on offense for the second straight match, hitting .447 today (after a .310 effort Friday). Bohannon hit .320 and also added seven digs, while redshirt senior Emma Keough hit .375 and contributed eight kills to the Eagles' total of 53 successful spikes. Laura McDermott added four blocks.

Leslie Schellhaas had a team-high 14 of the Eagles' 40 total digs. Caitlin Clark handed out a career high 42 assists.

Marshall got a team-best eight kills by Laura Der.

As a team, the Eagles hit .333 with just 16 attack errors on 108 swings. One area where the Eagles handed the 'Herd quite a few points was in the service game where MSU had 15 errors.

The second set became a marathon affair as both teams jockeyed for the final key set point opportunity. MSU had 24 kills in the set alone but also committed seven service errors to keep it within reach for the 'Herd.

The Eagles improved their attacking efficiency in every consecutive set, scoring a .229 effort in the first before hitting .370 in the second and ending on a high note with a .407 percentage in the deciding set. MSU held Marshall to just a .173 attack number for the match.

The Eagles host 24th-ranked Michigan at 5 p.m. Saturday in a re-match of the season opening match Friday night. Michigan won the lid-lifter, 3-1.
