MOREHEAD, Ky. --
The non-conference portion of the schedule is done, and now it's time for the Morehead State volleyball team to really get down to business. The Eagles begin defense of their Ohio Valley Conference title this weekend when they host Tennessee State and Austin Peay.

The weekend begins with a matchup against TSU on Friday night at 7 p.m. and concludes Saturday with a re-match of last year's OVC tournament championship match against Austin Peay at 2 p.m.

On Friday night, the first Volleyball Chalk Talk of the year will be happening at Gatti's Pizza. MSU season ticket holders are invited to enjoy the buffet at Gatti's, and head coach Jaime Gordon will stop by before the match to discuss happenings in Eagle volleyball and talk about the matchups against TSU and APSU.

On Saturday afternoon, following the APSU match, the Eagles will be hosting their first Kids Clinic of the season. The clinic is free and is open to all children of all ages.

MSU enters the weekend with a 5-5 overall record. The Eagles went 2-1 in Wetherby Gym last weekend and are 55-18 in the friendly confines of home in the last six seasons. Junior outside hitter Ellie Roberson leads the OVC in kills with 4.05 per set, while Laura McDermott (blocks), Caitlin Clark (assists) and Emma Keough (hitting percentage) all rank second among league players in those respective categories.

Tennessee State is 4-3 on the year. The Tigers have only played one match, however, since Sept. 3, losing a 3-0 affair at Western Kentucky Tuesday. Shaquita Williams leads the OVC in hitting percentage and service aces.

Austin Peay, which won the OVC tournament title last year, has struggled to a 2-9 mark under new head coach Bill Egbert. He is the fourth coach in as many seasons in Clarksville. Nikki Doyle leads the Lady Govs with 3.5 kills per set.

The Eagles lead the series with both teams. MSU has a monster 39-8 advantage over TSU and has won six straight over the Tigers since 2007. In fact, in those six contests, the Eagles have dropped just two total sets to TSU. MSU tops APSU 40-27 in the series.
