Eagle Volleyball Set for Busy Weekend at Home

MOREHEAD, Ky. --
Fans of college volleyball and the Morehead State Eagles need not go anywhere else  but Wetherby Gym this weekend as the Eagles host the four-team Comfort Inn and Suites Invitational.

MSU opens the event by battling Appalachian State on Friday at 11 a.m. The Eagles also tangle with George Mason at 7 p.m. In between, Western Michigan and GMU play at 1 p.m. and WMU and Appy State square off at 4:30 p.m. The action continues Saturday with GMU and Appy State at 11:30 a.m., followed by the Eagles and the WMU Broncos at 2 p.m.

During all of MSU's matches, fans will have to opportunity to participate in promotions to win prizes from the MSU Athletic Department and Gatti's Pizza.

MSU (3-4) heads into the weekend off a 2-2 effort last weekend at the Texas Tech Invitational. Several Eagle players rank highly in the Ohio Valley Conference stats so far, led by junior outside hitter Ellie Roberson who leads the conference in kills with 114. Redshirt senior Emma Keough ranks fourth in the league in hitting percentage at .289, and junior setter Caitlin Clark comes in at second in assists with 10.4 per set. Redshirt freshman Laura McDermott is a close second in total blocks with 26.

Appalachian State is 4-3. Anna Wagner leads the Mountaineers with 4.0 kills per set, while Courtney Rhein comes up with 4.5 digs per frame.

George Mason is 3-2 on the season after sweeping its own tournament last weekend. CAA Rookie of the Year (2010) Lana Zonjic tops the patriots with 59 kills.

Western Michigan boasts a 5-1 mark with big wins over Virginia and Seton Hall. Jessica Brown has 73 kills to lead the Broncos.

The Eagles have a 2-0 series lead with Appy State and have lost all three matches, including the latest meeting in 2009, to George Mason.
