Volleyball Takes Down George Mason in Three-Set Sweep

MOREHEAD, Ky. --
Led by .400-plus attack efficiencies from Emma Keough and Ellie Roberson and a 20-plus dig advantage, the Morehead State volleyball swept George Mason 3-0 (25-15, 25-21, 25-16) Friday night at Wetherby Gym in the Comfort Inn and Suites Invitational.

Coupled with Friday morning's 3-1 win over Appalachian State, the Eagles climbed above .500 now at 5-4.

Roberson hit a team-high .438 with 10 kills, while Keough pounded down eight kills and hit .400. Aryn Bohannon paced the Eagle offense with 12 spikes, and Laura McDermott wasn't to be forgotten either with eight kills, a .312 hitting effort, and a team-high four blocks.

The Eagles were efficient as a team too. MSU hit .275 for the match and had 46 kills to the Patriots' 25. Defensively, GMU did tally nine team blocks to MSU's six, but the Eagles out-dug their opposition 54-32 and held the Patriots to a sub-.100 attacking night.

Caitlin Clark had another double-double as MSU's seTter with 35 assists and 10 digs and Leslie Schellhaas had 14 digs to pace the Eagles. Liz Schuler tallied three of MSU's six aces.

GMU got seven kills apiece from Lana Zonjic and Noelle Fanella, while Kelsey Bohman notched eight blocks.

The Eagles hit .44 in the opening set, piling on 16 kills and making just four errors in the 25-15 victory. Roberson finished the first set hitting .714. MSU slowed a bit in the second frame but gutted out a 25-21 win.

MSU picked it up again in the clinching frame, nailing 16 kills and hitting nearly .300.

The Eagles will look to win the team title in their own tournament when they face Western Michigan (7-1) on Saturday at 2 p.m. following the Appalachian State-George Mason match.
