MOREHEAD, Ky. -- The Morehead State men’s basketball team (8-9, 2-2) wraps up a three-game Ohio Valley Conference road trip on Wednesday when it visits Tennessee State (8-9, 1-3). Tip-off from the Gentry Center is set for 8 p.m. ET.
The game will be webcast live on OVCSports.tv. It will also be broadcast on the Eagle Sports Network, which includes four affiliates in Eastern Kentucky and MSUEagles.com.
Morehead State has won four of its last six games, with victories over Binghamton, Ball State, Austin Peay and Jacksonville State. MSU has also defeated Asbury (Ky.), West Alabama, Princeton and Mid-Continent (Ky.) this season.
Tennessee State has dropped three straight contests after posting a five-game winning streak from Dec. 10-29. TSU has knocked off Fisk University, South Carolina, Morgan State, Central Michigan, Delaware State, LeMoyne-Owen College, Alabama A&M and UT Martin.
Morehead State is paced by senior Ty Proffitt (9.4 ppg), junior Kahlil Owens (5.5 rpg) and senior Lamont Austin (2.8 apg). Junior Marsell Holden drilled 5-of-9 from the three-point line en route to a team-high 15 points on Saturday at Tennessee Tech.
Tennessee State is led by junior Robert Covington (16.9 ppg, 7.8 rpg) and sophomore Patrick Miller (3.5 apg). Covington tallied 15 points on 9-of-10 from the free-throw line on Saturday at Jacksonville State.
Donnie Tyndall is in his sixth season as the head coach at Morehead State (104-79, .568) and his seventh year in charge of a college basketball program (134-84, .615).
John Cooper is in his third season as the head coach at Tennessee State (31-48, .392) after spending five years as the associate head coach at Auburn.
Morehead State owns a 30-27 advantage in the all-time series against Tennessee State. The teams split a pair of meetings in 2010-11, with both teams winning at home.
Kenneth Faried, who was taken by the Denver Nuggets in the first round of the 2011 NBA Draft, averaged 19.0 points and 20.0 rebounds in two games against the Tigers last year. Proffitt added 11.0 points per contest for MSU.
