Men's Basketball Welcomes UT Martin to Johnson Arena

MOREHEAD, Ky. -- The Morehead State men’s basketball team (9-11, 3-4) wraps up a three-game Ohio Valley Conference homestand on Saturday when UT Martin (3-17, 0-7) visits at 7 p.m. ET.

The game will be webcast live on OVCSports.tv.  It will also be broadcast on the Eagle Sports Network, which includes four affiliates in Eastern Kentucky and MSUEagles.com.

Morehead State led by one heading into the final four minutes of Wednesday’s game against #10/12 Murray State, but ended up suffering a 66-60 setback.

The Eagles own a 57-10 record (.851) at Johnson Arena over the past five years and a 36-4 mark (.900) in OVC home games during that same stretch.

UT Martin dropped an 86-78 double-overtime decision on Thursday at Eastern Kentucky.  The Skyhawks, who are looking to snap an eight-game skid overall, are searching for their first Division I victory since Nov. 27 at UAB.

Morehead State is led by senior Ty Proffitt (9.6 ppg, .386 3FG%), junior Kahlil Owens (5.3 rpg), senior Lamont Austin (2.9 apg, 1.3 spg), junior Milton Chavis (.517 FG%) and junior Marsell Holden (.955 FT%).

Sophomore Drew Kelly paced the Eagles with 20 points on 6-of-6 from both the field and free-throw line vs. Murray State, while Austin chipped in with 11 points and four steals.

UT Martin is led by sophomore Mike Liabo (15.4 ppg, 2.8 apg, .301 3FG%, .806 FT%), freshman Myles Taylor (5.1 rpg, .516 FG%) and sophomore Omari Minor (1.3 spg).

Liabo paced the Skyhawks with 23 points at Eastern Kentucky, while Taylor added 15 points and 12 rebounds and senior Dane Smith contributed 12 points and eight boards.

Donnie Tyndall is in his sixth season as the head coach at Morehead State (105-81, .565) and his seventh year in charge of a college basketball program (135-86, .611).

Jason James is in his third season as the head coach at UT Martin (19-63, .232) after spending seven years as an assistant on the Skyhawks coaching staff.

Morehead State has won five straight tilts vs. UT Martin and owns a 28-13 advantage in the all-time series.  Kenneth Faried, who was taken by the Denver Nuggets in the first round of the 2011 NBA Draft, averaged 19.5 points and 19.0 rebounds against UTM a season ago.
