MOREHEAD, Ky. -- The Morehead State men’s basketball team (10-11) steps away from league action on Tuesday when it visits Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference foe Norfolk State (15-5) at 7 p.m. ET.
The game will be webcast live on NSUSpartans.com. It will also be broadcast on the Eagle Sports Network, which includes four affiliates in Eastern Kentucky and MSUEagles.com.
Morehead State has won two of its last three games, with victories over Ohio Valley Conference opponents Eastern Kentucky and UT Martin. The lone setback in that stretch came to #10/12 Murray State, but the Eagles led by one heading into the final four minutes.
Norfolk State has won eight straight games, with victories over Toledo, St. Francis (N.Y.), Navy, Maryland-Eastern Shore, Howard, Morgan State, Coppin State and Hampton. The Spartans are 7-0 in conference play this year and 7-1 at Echols Hall.
Morehead State is led by senior Ty Proffitt (9.4 ppg), junior Kahlil Owens (5.0 rpg), senior Lamont Austin (3.0 apg, 1.4 spg), junior Milton Chavis (.528 FG%), freshman Angelo Warner (.381 3FG%) and junior Marsell Holden (.958 FT%).
Sophomore Drew Kelly paced the Eagles with 14 points and 10 rebounds in Saturday’s win over UT Martin. Over the past three contests, he has averaged 20.0 points and 7.3 rebounds while shooting 66 percent from the field.
Norfolk State is led by senior Kyle O’Quinn (15.8 ppg, 10.4 rpg, .585 FG%), sophomore Jamel Fuentes (2.8 apg), senior Chris McEachin (1.5 spg) and sophomore Pendarvis Williams (.397 3FG%, .797 FT%).
O’Quinn paced the Spartans with 22 points and 11 rebounds in Saturday’s victory over Hampton, while junior Rob Johnson added 19 points and 15 boards.
Donnie Tyndall is in his sixth season as the head coach at Morehead State (106-81, .567) and his seventh year in charge of a college basketball program (136-86, .613).
Anthony Evans is in his fifth season as the head coach at Norfolk State (67-77, .465) after spending four years as an NSU assistant coach.
Tuesday’s contest will be the first meeting between Morehead State and Norfolk State in men’s basketball.
