MOREHEAD, Ky. -- The Morehead State men’s basketball team (11-11, 4-4) returns to Ohio Valley Conference action on Saturday when Tennessee Tech (13-8, 5-3) visits Johnson Arena for a “Blackout Game” at 3 p.m. ET.
The contest will be televised by ESPNU and webcast on ESPN3.com. It will also be broadcast on the Eagle Sports Network, which includes four affiliates in Eastern Kentucky and MSUEagles.com.
Morehead State owns a 58-10 home record (.853) over the past five years, including a 37-4 mark (.902) in OVC play. The Eagles have also won four of their last five home games.
Tennessee Tech has won five of its last seven games overall, with league victories over UT Martin, Tennessee State, Morehead State, Southeast Missouri and Eastern Kentucky.
Morehead State is led by senior Ty Proffitt (9.8 ppg, .388 3FG%), junior Kahlil Owens (4.9 rpg), senior Lamont Austin (2.9 apg, 1.4 spg), junior Milton Chavis (.535 FG%) and junior Marsell Holden (.958 FT%).
Proffitt paced the Eagles with 18 points on 5-of-6 from the field and 4-of-4 from the free-throw line in Tuesday’s win at Norfolk State, while Warner recorded a career-best 12 rebounds and junior Devon Atkinson added a team-high four assists.
Tennessee Tech is led by senior Kevin Murphy (20.0 ppg, .461 3FG%), junior Jud Dillard (8.7 rpg, .520 FG%, .830 FT%) and senior Zac Swansey (5.6 apg, 2.5 spg).
Murphy paced the Golden Eagles with a career-best 34 points on 11-of-19 from the floor and 8-of-8 from the charity stripe in Thursday’s victory at Eastern Kentucky. For the night, TTU shot 56 percent overall and 93 percent from the foul line.
Donnie Tyndall is in his sixth season as the head coach at Morehead State (107-81, .569) and his seventh year in charge of a college basketball program (137-86, .614).
Steve Payne is in his first season as the head coach at Tennessee Tech (13-8, .619) after spending nine years as TTU’s associate head coach.
Morehead State owns a 74-62 advantage in the all-time series against Tennessee Tech and has won nine of the last 10 head-to-head meetings.
