Men's Hoops Ready For Road Battle With Tennessee Tech

MOREHEAD, Ky. --
The Morehead State men’s basketball team (8-8, 2-1) continues Ohio Valley Conference action on Saturday when it visits Tennessee Tech (10-6, 2-1) at 8:30 p.m. ET.  The contest will follow an MSU vs. TTU women’s game at 6:30 p.m.

The game will be webcast live on OVCSports.TV.  It will also be broadcast on the Eagle Sports Network, which includes four affiliates in Eastern Kentucky and MSUEagles.com.

Morehead State has posted league wins over Austin Peay and Jacksonville State after going 6-7 in non-conference action.  The Eagles finished 25-10 overall and 13-5 in the OVC a year ago.

Tennessee Tech has recorded league wins over UT Martin and Tennessee State after going 8-5 in non-conference play.  The Golden Eagles went 20-13 overall and 12-6 in the OVC a year ago.

Morehead State is paced by senior Ty Proffitt (9.4 ppg), junior Kahlil Owens (5.6 rpg) and senior Lamont Austin (2.9 apg).  Sophomore Drew Kelly scored a game-high 20 points in Thursday’s victory over Jacksonville State, while Owens pulled down 11 rebounds.

Tennessee Tech is led by senior Kevin Murphy (19.4 ppg), junior Jud Dillard (8.4 rpg) and senior Zac Swansey (6.0 apg).  The trio combined for 78 points on 26-of-42 from the field and 17-of-19 from the charity stripe in Thursday’s win over Tennessee State.

Donnie Tyndall is in his sixth season as the head coach at Morehead State (104-78, .571) and his seventh year in charge of a college basketball program (134-83, .618).

Steve Payne is in his first season as the head coach at Tennessee Tech (10-6, .625) after spending nine years as TTU’s associate head coach.

Morehead State owns a 74-61 advantage in the all-time series against Tennessee Tech.  The Eagles won all three meetings last season, including a 80-73 victory in the championship game of the 2011 OVC Tournament.

Kenneth Faried, who was taken by the Denver Nuggets in the first round of the 2011 NBA Draft, averaged 18.3 points and 11.7 rebounds in three games against the Golden Eagles last year.  Kelly added 9.7 points and 4.0 boards per contest for MSU.
