MOREHEAD, Ky. – The No. 18 Morehead State rifle team dropped a pair of matches to No. 5 Jacksonville State and No. 10 Murray State on Saturday at Button Rifle Range.
The 4,641-4,537 loss to JSU was the second time the Gamecocks defeated the Eagles in 2012. MSU opened its season with a 4,654-4,551 defeat in Jacksonville, Ala.
Murray State defeated MSU head-to-head, 4,613-4,537.
Sophomore Ethan Cole led the Eagles with a 577 in both smallbore and air rifle. The total was Cole’s highest of the year in smallbore, while it tied his season-best in air rifle. Junior Mary Saenger also had a standout performance for MSU, as she posted a 566 in smallbore and a 574 in air rifle.
Senior Rob Gagliani managed a pair of perfect scores in prone smallbore, and finished the event with a 562. He also registered a 559 in air rifle.
The Eagles’ smallbore line-up was rounded out by freshman Russell Smith (560) and sophomore Jumell Wilson (544), and Wilson (559) and fellow sophomore Christian Hashagen (562) scored for the Eagles in air rifle.
MSU is back in action on Saturday as it travels to Virginia Military Institute to take on the Keydets.
