MOREHEAD, Ky. -- The Morehead State men’s basketball team (12-11, 5-4) opens a stretch of five road games in 17 days when it visits SIU Edwardsville (5-14, 3-7) on Thursday at 8 p.m. ET.
The game will be webcast live on OVCSportstv. It will also be broadcast on the Eagle Sports Network, which includes four affiliates in Eastern Kentucky and MSUEagles.com.
Morehead State has won four of its past five games, with victories over Eastern Kentucky, UT Martin, Norfolk State and Tennessee Tech.
SIU Edwardsville has dropped six straight contests after beginning its first-ever Ohio Valley Conference slate with a 3-1 record.
Morehead State is led by senior Ty Proffitt (10.3 ppg, .400 3FG%), junior Kahlil Owens (4.9 rpg), senior Lamont Austin (2.9 apg, 1.5 spg), junior Milton Chavis (.518 FG%) and junior Marsell Holden (.958 FT%).
Proffitt paced the Eagles with a game-best 20 points in Saturday’s win over Tennessee Tech, while sophomore Drew Kelly added 15.
SIU Edwardsville is led by junior Mark Yelovich (13.6 ppg, 6.3 rpg, 1.1 spg), junior Jerome Jones (13.6 ppg), freshman Kris Davis (2.5 apg, .481 FG%, .587 3FG%) and senior Corey Wickware (.906 FT%).
Jones paced the Cougars with a team-high 25 points in Monday’s affair vs. Tennessee Tech, while Yelovich added 19 points and 12 rebounds.
Donnie Tyndall is in his sixth season as the head coach at Morehead State (108-81, .571) and his seventh year in charge of a college basketball program (138-86, .616).
Lennox Forrester is in his fifth season as the head coach at SIU Edwardsville (45-89, .336) after spending five years as an assistant coach at Bradley.
This marks the third consecutive season that Morehead State and SIU Edwardsville have met in men’s basketball. The Eagles own a 2-0 advantage in the all-time series.
Demonte Harper and Kenneth Faried combined for 60 points, 21 rebounds, four assists, six steals and two blocks in MSU’s 83-64 victory over SIUE last season. The duo also connected on 19-of-31 from the field and 18-of-23 from the free-throw line in that contest.
