MOREHEAD, Ky. -- The Morehead State men’s basketball team (15-14, 8-6) begins its final week of regular-season action on Thursday when Ohio Valley Conference foe Eastern Illinois (12-15, 5-9) visits Johnson Arena at approximately 7:30 p.m. ET.
The men’s game, which will follow a 5:15 p.m. women’s contest between MSU and EIU, will be webcast live on OVCSports.tv. It will also be broadcast on the Eagle Sports Network, which includes WIVY-96.3 FM, MSPR-90.3 FM and MSUEagles.com.
Morehead State has won five of its past seven league games, with victories over UT Martin, Tennessee Tech, Eastern Illinois, Eastern Kentucky and Austin Peay.
Eastern Illinois has won three straight conference affairs, with victories over Tennessee Tech, UT Martin and SIU Edwardsville. The Panthers had previously dropped eight straight.
MSU owns a 59-11 record (.843) at Johnson Arena over the past five years, including a 38-5 mark (.884) in OVC home games. The Eagles have won five of their last seven at home.
Morehead State is led by senior Ty Proffitt (10.1 ppg, .373 3FG%), sophomore Drew Kelly (4.9 rpg), senior Lamont Austin (3.0 apg, 1.4 spg), junior Milton Chavis (.523 FG%) and junior Marsell Holden (.929 FT%).
Proffitt paced the Eagles with 18 points on Saturday at Bowling Green, while Kelly added 12 points and five rebounds.
Eastern Illinois is led by senior Jeremy Granger (15.6 ppg, 3.2 apg, .877 FT%), sophomore Alfonzo McKinnie (7.2 rpg, .571 FG%), freshman Joey Miller (1.0 spg) and senior L.C. Doss (.396 3FG%).
Granger paced the Panthers with 18 points on Saturday against UIC, while Miller and Doss chipped in with 10 points apiece.
Donnie Tyndall is in his sixth season as the head coach at Morehead State (111-84, .569) and his seventh year in charge of a college basketball program (141-89, .613).
Mike Miller is in his seventh season as the head coach at Eastern Illinois (75-128, .369) and his 13th year in charge of a college basketball program (162-207, .439).
Eastern Illinois owns a 22-10 advantage in the all-time series against Morehead State. Kelly, Proffitt and junior Milton Chavis tallied 11 points each on Feb. 4 at Lantz Arena to help the Eagles score a 56-55 victory over the Panthers.
