BOWLING GREEN, Ky. -
The Morehead State softball team dropped two extra inning contests at the Hilltopper Spring Classic on Saturday, falling to Ohio Valley Conference rival Murray State 7-6 and the host Western Kentucky 4-1.

MSU falls to 1-5 on the season, while Murray State improves to 4-1 in 2012 and WKU moves to 8-3.

Despite a four run rally in the bottom of seventh to force extra time, MSU was only able to tally one run to the Racer's two in the eighth inning.

Junior Adrena Anderson started the Eagles’ rally in the seventh, singling past third base to score sophomore Stephanie Etter.  Junior Anna Sommer then reached on an error by the first baseman, scoring freshman Kara Arceneaux.  Junior Elizabeth Wagner finished the rally, smashing a double to left field and scoring Anderson and Sommer.

Morehead State tallied six runs on eight hits and four errors, while Murray State had seven runs on 11 hits and two errors.

Wagner went 2-for-3 with two RBI, while Anderson tallied two hits and two RBI for the Eagles.  Etter also contributed two hits and an RBI.  Sophomore Jamie Massaro belted a solo home run to left center in the third inning.

Sohomore Kelsey McMurray (0-1) took the loss for MSU, while the Racer’s Shelby Kosmecki (1-1) earned the win.

In the second contest of the day, the Eagles and Lady Toppers played four scoreless innings before Wagner scored the first run of the game.  WKU answered with a run of its own in the sixth.  After neither team could finish the game in the seventh inning, the Eagles were headed to extra frames.

In the bottom of the eighth inning, WKU's Amanda Thomas belted a three-run bomb to left center to end the game in favor of the host Lady Toppers.

The Eagles registered one run on five hits and WKU tallied four runs on seven hits.  Seniors Kayla Brill and Samm Sparks notched a solen base each.

Senior Jami Whitcomb (1-2) recorded the loss for MSU, pitching her second complete game.  Kim Wagner (4-1) tallied the win for the Lady Toppers.

Morehead State concludes the Hilltopper Spring Classic on Sunday against Bowling Green at 10 a.m. ET and Indiana State 2 p.m. ET.
