Catherine McDaniel Named Assistant Softball Coach

MOREHEAD, Ky. -  Catherine McDaniel has been named an assistant coach for the Morehead State softball program. Head Coach David Williams announced McDaniel's hiring this week.

"We are very excited about the addition of Catherine McDaniel to our staff,” said Williams.  “She had an outstanding career at Florida Gulf Coast and is now transitioning into coaching.  Her enthusiasm and knowledge are great additions to the program as we head into the season."

At MSU, McDaniel will primarily work with the outfielders, help to formulate scouting reports, and assist with day-to-day operations.

McDaniel began her college career at Manatee Community College in Bradenton, Fla., in 2007.  At Manatee, she was named First-Team All-State, First-Team All-American and the All-State Pitcher of the Year.

She spent one year at Florida Tech before transferring to Florida Gulf Coast, where she was a three-year letterwinner from 2009-2011.  As a redshirt sophomore, McDaniel was named to the Louisville Slugger/National Fastpitch Coaches Association First-Team All-South Region squad and also garnered Atlantic Sun Second-Team All-Conference honors as a redshirt senior.

McDaniel closed out her three-year career at FGCU with the fourth-best ERA in program history at 2.16 and sits in fourth place with 48 career wins.  She finished third in the school's record book with 347 strikeouts over 474 innings pitched, while giving up just 1.49 walks per seven innings.

McDaniel earned her bachelor’s degree in criminal justice in 2010 and began working towards a Master’s Degree in educational leadership.

She volunteered with Melbourne High School and its travel softball team over the summer of  2011.
