Men's Golf Finishes Seventh at Tournament in Tennessee

FINAL RESULTS

JACKSON, Tenn. -- The Morehead State men’s golf team finished seventh in the 12-team Grover Page Classic at the Jackson Country Club.  The Eagles recorded a 300 in the second-and-final day on Tuesday after posting rounds of 306 and 304 on Monday.

“We were inconsistent the past two days,” Morehead State Head Coach Dr. Rex Chaney said.  “We hit the ball pretty well off the tee, but we had a lot of trouble with our putting.  There were things we’ve worked on in practice that translated to the course and there were other things that didn’t.”

Sophomore Michael Pinsonneault was Morehead State’s top finisher and tied for 18th out of 75 golfers.  He carded a two-over-par 74 on Tuesday en route to a 225 for the tournament.

Senior Dean Schneider, who tied for 21st individually, tallied a 75 in the third-and-final round to finish with a 227.  Junior Sam Zirnheld (T-27) added a 74 on Tuesday en route to a 230 for the Eagles.

“Michael and Dean had decent tournaments for us, but we need to get all five guys going at the same time,” Chaney said.  “Michael showed some progress and Dean was fairly consistent.”

Senior Crit Reddick (T-32, 77, 231) and junior Jared Flanery (T-36, 78, 232) rounded out the line-up for MSU, while Tommy Carrico (77, 233) and junior Matt Logan (87, 246) competed as individuals.

Ohio Valley Conference member UT Martin won the event with a 292 in the final round, which led to a tournament score of 881.  Southern Illinois junior Jake Erickson and Murray State junior Patrick Newcomb tied for medalist honors with 54-hole totals of 217.

Morehead State returns to the links on Saturday when it travels to conference rival Eastern Kentucky for a dual match at the Arlington Golf Course in Richmond.

“My expectations are certainly higher than what we showed at this tournament in Tennessee,” Chaney added.  “We’ll go back to the drawing board this week and get ready for the trip over to EKU.”
