MOREHEAD, Ky. –
The Morehead State softball team split its doubleheader versus non-conference opponent Butler on Tuesday, earning a 1-0 win in game one before falling 11-5 in game two at University Field.

The Eagles move to 11-23 on the season, while Butler sits at 14-23 after the split. Junior Katie Pfost (4-8) earned the win, while senior Ashley Imperial (1-5) suffered the loss.  Jenny Esparza (6-4) took the loss for the Bulldogs in game one, and Sarah Lowry (2-0) tallied the win in game two.

MSU opened the day with the one-run victory behind a two-hitter by Pfost, who pitched her fifth complete game of the season and struck out six batters in the contest.

Junior Amber Riddle blasted her ninth home run of the season in the second inning for the game’s only run.  Riddle is just one homer from tying the Morehead State single season record held by Rebecca Butler, who hit 10 a season ago.

MSU notched four hits in the game, with sophomore Stephanie Etter collecting two safeties.  Butler committed two errors in the contest.

In game two, the Eagles led 5-4 going into the top of the seventh when the Bulldogs strung together six hits and plated seven runs.  The frame was keyed by a lead-off triple from Kristen Boros.

Butler outhit MSU 14-6 in the second outing, but had four miscues to Morehead State’s one.  Senior Kayla Brill led the Eagles with a 2-for-4 performance plus two runs and an RBI.  Junior Adrena Anderson notched two hits, including MSU’s second triple of the season.

The Eagles continue non-conference play with a Thursday doubleheader versus Miami University at University Field.  First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m. ET.
