Pickford records 4 RBIs in Morehead State's 10-6 victory against Western Illinois

MOREHEAD, Ky. --Sela Pickford racked up four RBIs to help propel the Morehead State Eagles past the Western Illinois Leathernecks 10-6 on Saturday.

Rylie Burney (4-19) started in the circle and picked up the win for Morehead State (6-38, 7-15). The right-hander went seven innings, giving up six runs, two earned, on 11 hits, allowing two walks and striking out three.

Pickford went 2-for-5 with a home run in addition to her four RBIs for the Eagles. Victoria Spencer compiled a noteworthy day at the plate as well, going 3-for-4 with an RBI. Maddy Christopher also helped out for Morehead State, putting together three hits in five trips to the plate while adding a double.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Trailing 2-0, the Eagles first put runs on the board in the second inning. Morehead State got an RBI single from Spencer, scoring Nyla Doiron from third base.

The Eagles kept the Leathernecks off the board before tying it up in the third. Christopher came across to score the lone run of the inning for Morehead State, which evened the score at 2-2.

Western Illinois busted up the tie and grabbed a 5-2 lead moving into the fourth, when Morehead State tied the game at five.

The Leathernecks broke the tie and took the lead heading into the fifth inning, when Morehead State got back on the scoreboard. The Eagles scored four runs in the inning, highlighted by a three-run home run off the bat of Pickford, bringing the Morehead State advantage to 9-6.

The Eagles kept Western Illinois scoreless before building on their lead to 10-6 the following inning. Jordan Donato came across to score the lone run of the inning for Morehead State and get them on the board. The score remained 10-6 for the rest of the game, as the Eagles coasted to the win.
