Softball Primed for Important OVC Series at Murray State This Weekend

GAME NOTES

MOREHEAD, Ky. –
Morehead State returns to Ohio Valley Conference action this weekend as the Eagles travel to Murray State for a three-game series.  The Eagles and the Racers will play a 2 p.m. ET doubleheader on Saturday, followed by a single game on Sunday at 2 p.m.

The Eagles sit at 11-25 on the season and are 4-13 in OVC action.  Murray State owns a 17-14 record in 2012 and is 10-8 in league play.  The Racers finished sixth in the conference standings a year ago.

MSU tallied a 1-4 record in the past week, splitting its doubleheader versus non-conference opponent Butler on Tuesday, earning a 1-0 win in game one before falling 11-5 in game two.  The Eagles then dropped both games of a doubleheader against Miami University on Thursday, falling 5-2 in game one before suffering a 7-5 setback in game two.

Junior first baseman Amber Riddle blasted her ninth home run of the season in a 1-0 win against Butler on Tuesday in the second inning for the game’s only run.  Riddle is just one homer from tying the Morehead State single season record held by Rebecca Butler, who hit 10 a season ago.

Junior pitcher Katie Pfost notched a 1.47 ERA in four appearances and 14.1 innings in the past week.  She posted a 1-1 record while only allowing three earned runs and striking out 11 batters.  Opponents only hit .200 against the lefty.  On the year, Pfost is 4-9 and has a 2.45 ERA in a team-leading 100.0 innings pitched.

The Eagles continue their road trip to Huntington, W.Va., for a doubleheader against regional rival Marshall on Wednesday.  First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m. ET.
