MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Eastern Kentucky scored three runs in the ninth inning to rally and defeat the Morehead State baseball team 6-4 Friday at Allen Field.
The Eagles committed two of their three errors in the three-run ninth. Colonel right fielder Michael Garcia led off the ninth with a solo shot off closer
Matt Duncan to tie the contest, and EKU added a pair of runs to earn the victory. Garcia went 2-for-4 with the home run, a double and three RBI.
Duncan suffered his first loss of the season. He pitched one inning and allowed three runs, only one of which was earned, and allowed two hits.
MSU struck first in the opener scoring a run in the third. The Colonels had two of their four errors in the frame.
A three run sixth, in which the Colonels committed a pair of errors, gave the Eagles a 4-0 lead. Designated hitter
Nick Duff recorded one of MSU’s three hits in the inning. He and second baseman
Austin Haney had multi-hit outings.
EKU reliever Brent Cobb earned the win. He pitched 1.2 innings and fanned two. Closer Anthony Bazzani got the save, his fifth of the season. He tossed a scoreless ninth and allowed a walk.
Game two of the three-game set is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET Saturday at Allen Field.
