MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Morehead State baseball allowed Eastern Kentucky to rally in Saturday’s 4-3 loss at Allen Field.
Eagle starter
Noah Smallwood retired 17 of his first 18 batters before allowing a solo shot to EKU first baseman A.J. Jamison with MSU leading 2-0 in the seventh inning. Jamison was one of four Colonels to record a multi-hit game.
EKU( 21-19, 11-6 OVC) plated three runs in the eighth to take the lead and knock Reliever
Morgan Cirbo suffered his first loss of the season. He faced four batter, allowed three hits and two runs in the eighth.
Senior right fielder
Luke Bainer provided the Eagles with a first inning lead, launching a solo shot to right field. MSU added to its lead with a run in the fourth on a pair of EKU errors.
Eagle left fielder
Taylor Pickens recorded a two-hit outing with a pair of singles.
MSU (24-18, 9-8 OVC) attempted a late rally and chipped the Colonel lead to one run.
Luke Bainer drove a ball deep to centerfield for a sacrifice fly after consecutive eighth inning singles.
Fyffe earned his sixth win in his first start of the season for EKU. He pitched seven innings, yielded four hits and two runs. Closer Anthony Bazzani earned his second save in as many days. He tossed 1.1 innings and fanned two.
The Eagles return to action in the series finale at Allen Field Sunday at 1 p.m. ET.
