Eagle Softball to Host Butler, Miami University This Week

GAME NOTES

MOREHEAD, Ky. –
Morehead State returns home to University Field to host a pair of non-conference opponents during the coming week.  The Eagles face Butler on Tuesday and Miami University on Thursday.  Both days feature 2 p.m. ET doubleheaders.

MSU owns a 10-22 record this season, with a 4-13 mark in Ohio Valley Conference action.  Butler sits at 13-22 and has a 5-4 tally in the Horizon League, while Miami University has a 23-12 record in 2012 and is 6-2 in the Mid-American Conference.  Both teams finished in the top three of their conference standings a year ago.

Despite rallying in both games against SIU Edwardsville on Friday, the Morehead State softball team hurt themselves with seven errors in an 8-7 decision in game one and an extra-inning 8-7 loss in game two.  Both games were decided by walk-off hits by SIUE.  The Eagles then dropped the series finale, 6-4, on Saturday.

Senior left fielder Kayla Brill led MSU offensively against the Cougars with a .500 batting average on five hits, including one two-bagger, and three RBI.  On the season, Brill is batting a .289 average with 26 hits and 14 RBI.

Sophomore catcher Jamie Massaro had a career outing in Friday’s second game versus SIUE.  Massaro went 2-for-2 with a career high three RBI.  In 2012, she is batting .225 and has 10 RBI.

Sophomore pitcher Kelcey McMurray tallied a 2.10 ERA in three appearances and 6.2 innings against SIUE.  She allowed three runs, including only two earned runs, and notched two strikeouts.

The Eagles next travel to Murray, Ky., for a three-game series against OVC foe Murray State.  Morehead State and the Racers will play a 2 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday, followed by a single game on Sunday at 2 p.m.
