Game notes heading into the contest:
Live by the Three
The Eagles hit 7.2 triples per game to rank second in the OVC. MSU averages 24.8 three-point attempts per game to rank second in the league behind only UT Martin.
One For the Record Books
Junior guard Terrice Robinson scored 30 points at EKU on Jan. 12, and sophomore guard Almesha Jones registered 30 against SIUE on Jan. 7. According to the MSU record book, it’s the first time in school history that different players have scored 30 points in back-to-back games.
Ice In Our Veins
MSU has four starters who shoot better than 80 percent at the free throw line in conference games, including two who are perfect in the conference slate so far. As a team, the Eagles hit 80 percent at the line in league battles.
Patience Pays Off
MSU fully installed a new offensive system this season, and the rust of learning the scheme appears to be shaking off. MSU averages 54.5 points overall but in the last five games, the Eagles are averaging 64.3. MSU is also shooting 42 percent in league games compared to just 37 percent overall.
One of the League’s Best
Junior guard Terrice Robinson leads MSU and ranks third in the OVC in scoring at 17.3 points per game. She has reached double figures in 16 of the Eagles’ 19 games. Robinson has scored 20 or more points five times and 30 or more twice. She has led the team in the point column 13 times. In OVC games, Robinson averages 20.6 points.
Approaching Greatness
Terrice Robinson is just 72 points shy of the 400-point plateau this season. Only 12 other players in the 41-year history of the program have ever registered 400 or more points in a season.
Keeping Up With the Jones
Sophomore guard Almesha Jones has been a jack-of-all-trades player for MSU this season. She ranks second in scoring (11.2) but leads MSU in assists (77) and steals (52). Jones is averaging nearly six assists per game in OVC play.
Dynamic Duo
Terrice Robinson and Almesha Jones combine for 52.7 percent of MSU’s total scoring per game, and that ranks as the second-best two-player combo in the OVC. Only UT Martin’s Heather Butler and Jasmine Newsome (60 percent of their team’s total) rank higher.
Picking Up the Pace
Sophomore forward Casey Ryans has upped her production to 7.8 points and 7.6 rebounds against OVC competition. She had her first career double-double (11 pts, 10 rbs) against Eastern Kentucky.
Turning It Around
Junior Allie Turner has also picked up her game against league teams. She scores 6.0 points a game vs. the OVC and has double figures in two of the last three games.
