Monique Bunk Signs with Women's Basketball

MOREHEAD, Ky. – Monique Bunk, a transfer from Sante Fe College (SFC) in Florida, has inked a National Letter of Intent to join the Morehead State women’s basketball program.

Bunk, a 5-foot-4 guard, took a redshirt year at SFC in 2011-12 and will have three years of collegiate eligibility remaining starting in 2013-14.

“We are very excited about Monique and the impact she will bring to our team and university,” Head Coach Tom Hodges said.  “Mo is a young lady that will bring immediate experience to the point guard position. She has an ability to score the ball that we didn’t see all spring on the recruiting trail.”

Bunk averaged 11.7 points, 4.5 assists and 3.6 rebounds per outing last season for Head Coach Chanda Stebbins at SFC. She’ll be joining her SFC teammate Taybreanna Couch, who inked an NLI recently at MSU.

She was tabbed First-Team Mid-Florida Conference as well as Region 8 All-Tournament and all-tournament at the state championship.

“I watched her score 37 points against Gulf Coast State College in the state playoffs, and Gulf Coast ended up finishing second in the nation,” Hodges added.  “Having already signed Tay Couch, we felt very fortunate to sign Mo out of Coach Stebbins’ program. We know we are getting another young lady who is ready to step up in a big way for Morehead State.”

A native of Orlando, Fla., Bunk prepped at Olympia High School where she was a first-team all-conference selection as well as her team’s Offensive Most Valuable Player as a sophomore and senior. She also spent time at Central Florida Prep.

Bunk is the sixth addition to the program for 2013-14, joining Couch, Aaliyah Wells, Shiloh Murphy, Billie Hearn and Shay Steele.

“Monique’s presence on our team really solidifies our roster and ties everything together.  I couldn’t be any more excited than to welcome Monique to Morehead and introduce her to all our great Eagle fans,” Hodges said.
