CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. --
The Morehead State softball team was swept by Ohio Valley Conference foe Austin Peay, 3-2 and 10-5, on Saturday at Cheryl Holt Field.

The sweep dropped the Eagles’ record to 13-13 overall and 1-7 in conference action, while the Lady Govs improved to 12-16 and 3-7 in league play.

Despite scoring first in game one, the Lady Govs used a walk-off home run from junior pitcher Lauren de Castro, after the Eagles forced extra innings, to earn the 3-2 victory.

Senior Katie Pfost fell to 7-7 with the loss in the circle, while de Castro improved to 6-7 with the victory. Pfost surrendered three earned runs, allowed seven hits and struck out nine in the contest.

The Eagles were led by senior Adrena Anderson, who went 3-for-4 and registered an RBI, while seniors Sam Woodall and Anna Sommer and freshman Tressa Watson all recorded one hit.

Senior Kayla Ashbrook knocked in MSU's first run in the top of the third when sophomore Katie Raile scored on a fielder's choice. The tying run came off a single from Anderson in the top of the seventh.

The Lady Govs had previously scored on an RBI single in the fifth inning and RBI double in the sixth.

In game two, MSU senior Amber Riddle highlighted a three-run first inning with her 32nd career home run.  Austin Peay equaled that total in its half of the inning to give the teams a clean slate heading into the second.

MSU jumped back in front with runs in the third and fifth innings. The Eagles held that advantage until the bottom of the fifth when Austin Peay scored four runs off three hits to go ahead. The Lady Govs added three insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth to secure the victory.

Junior Kelcey McMurray suffered the game-two loss in the circle to fall to 2-4 on the season. McMurray surrendered seven earned runs off five hits and struck out a pair in 4.2 innings.

Freshman Abby Guest, who earned the game-two victory for the Lady Govs, improved to 1-2.

Woodall and Riddle registered two hits and a pair of RBI each in the nightcap.

The Eagles wrap up their four-game conference weekend with a doubleheader on Sunday at Murray State. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m. ET. Live stats will be available on MSUEagles.com.
