CHARLESTON, Ill. --
A grand slam in the first inning helped lift UT Martin over the Morehead State softball team, 5-2, in the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament at Glenn & Joan Williams Field on Friday. The loss eliminated the Eagles from the 2013 tournament.

After three straight singles for the Skyhawks, junior outfielder Kayla Wade connected on her second home run of the season to take an early 4-1 lead.

MSU scored single runs in the first and fourth innings to account for its total. Senior outfielder Sam Woodall took advantage of a fielding error to score an unearned run in the first frame, while sophomore third baseman Katie Raile connected on a double to right center to bring in junior second baseman Stephanie Etter.

The Skyhawks added to their total in the sixth inning when senior outfielder Leah Taylor hit a solo shot over the left center fence for her 10th roundtripper of 2013.

MSU was narrowly outhit, 7-5, in the contest, but the Skyhawks committed three errors.

Raile led the Eagles with a hit and an RBI, while Woodall, Etter, and seniors Adrena Anderson and Elizabeth Wagner each registered a single hit.

Senior Katie Pfost suffered the loss for the Eagles to finish the season 15-14. She was tagged with five earned runs off seven hits, while striking out five Skyhawks. Sophomore pitcher Kenzi Tate (18-6) was the victor in the contest.

The Eagles conclude the 2013 season with a 24-25 overall record.
