MOREHEAD, Ky. – The Morehead State soccer team opens its season Friday with a trip to Columbus, Ohio to take on defending Big 10 Tournament Champion Ohio State. The Eagles will end the weekend with a Sunday contest at St. Francis (Pa.). Friday's match begins at 7 p.m. ET, while Sunday's tilt is set for 1 p.m.

MSU is 0-0-1 all-time versus OSU, while the Eagles tied St. Francis 2-2 in the first meeting in series history last season.

MATCH NOTES

• The Eagles return 90 percent of their scoring in sophomore forward Kimberly Golden and junior forward Macy Cobb, who tied for the team lead with three goals each.

• Youngstown State transfer and team co-captain Jade Flory, who scored 11 goals in two seasons with the Penguins, should also factor into the attacking plan. She scored the lone MSU goal in the exhibition match against Western Kentucky.

• The midfield is anchored by veteran junior co-captains Lindsay Oettle and Holly Tilley, while the defense will look to 2013 Preseason All-OVC member Kelsey Gomez to lead the group.

• Three players, including 2012 starter Elizabeth Floyd, could see time in goal.

PREVIEWING OSU AND SFU

• The Buckeyes return seven starters to a team picked to finish fourth in the Big 10 preseason coaches poll.

• OSU senior captain Heather Fuller has made 68 career starts in goal. The Buckeyes lost 80 percent of their goal scoring from last season, including senior Tiffany Cameron, who scored 21 of the team's 40 goals.

• St. Francis returns eight starters from its 2012 team that went 10-0 in Northeast Conference play before being upset by Long Island in the championship match of the league tournament.

• The Morehead State defense will have its eyes on SFU senior forward Tesa McKibben. The Cogan Station, Pa., native is the NCAA active leader in career points (126) and is second among active players with 50 career goals, including 19 tallies in 2012.

• Two-time reigning NEC Defender of the Year Alecia McNiff is expected to lead the back line for the Red Flash.
