Volleyball Comes Up Short in Road Finale at EKU

RICHMOND, Ky. -- The Eastern Kentucky volleyball team recorded advantages of 39-34 in kills and 51-44 in digs on Wednesday evening on its way to a 25-22, 25-17, 25-22 Ohio Valley Conference victory over Morehead State at McBrayer Arena.

The Colonels improve to 20-13 overall, 10-5 in conference action and 8-2 at home.  The Eagles slip to 2-28 overall, 2-13 in league tilts and 1-12 on the road.  MSU continues to hold a 62-46 upper hand in the all-time series despite being swept this season.

Senior outside hitter Alexis Plagens led EKU with nine kills, while senior setter Abbey Cvelbar handed out a match-high 29 kills and senior libero Dena Ott collected a team-best 13 digs.

Senior middle blocker Laura McDermott tallied a match-high 13 smackdowns for MSU, while senior setter Colbey Cameron distributed a team-best 26 assists and sophomore libero Hope Rillema registered a match-best 17 digs.

Eastern Kentucky was even in the serving category, with two aces and two errors.  Morehead State was minus-six, with three serves that couldn't be returned and nine miscues.  The Colonels also tallied a 6-4 edge in team blocks.

The match featured 13 ties and seven lead changes.  Eastern Kentucky hit .173, with its best set percentage of .212 coming in the third.  Morehead State hit .104, with its top set percentage of .225 also coming in the final stanza.

MSU wraps up its campaign on Saturday when Murray State visits Wetherby Gym at 5 p.m. ET.  The Racers have clinched the OVC's regular-season title.  Cameron, McDermott and Alex Fitzmorris will be honored as part of Senior Day.
