Men's Tennis Edged at Belmont, 4-3

NASHVILLE, Tenn. --
The Morehead State men's tennis team dropped a 4-3 Ohio Valley Conference match at Belmont Saturday as the Bruins broke a 3-3 tie by winning two doubles matches at Centennial Sportsplex.

Belmont improved to 6-8 overall and 4-0 in the league. The Eagles lost their third straight match to slip to 5-5 overall and 1-2 in the OVC.

The two squads played singles first and split the six matchups. MSU won at the bottom half of the lineup, while the Bruins claimed all three at the top.

At No. 4, sophomore Nick Mercer topped Henrik Claesson 6-1, 7-5. On court five, senior David Clifford ran his OVC mark to 3-0 and improved to 7-1 overall this spring with a 6-4, 6-1 win versus Hans Nardelli. At No. 6, freshman Gabriel Ruiz was defeating Martijn Verberne 6-2 and 1-0 before Verberne retired.

In doubles, Belmont won at Nos. 1 and 2 to claim the victory. Mauricio Antun, the reigning OVC Player of the Week, and Marko Lovrinovic bested freshman Jack Swindells and senior Ji Hoon Heo 8-4 on court one. Clifford and Mercer fell 8-2 to Cedric Dujacquier and Claesson at No. 2. Ruiz and sophomore Enrique Samudio were on top 7-4 on court three before the match was halted.

Morehead State continues OVC play today in Nashville versus Tennessee State at 11 a.m. ET.
