Volleyball Goes Down in Three Sets at Belmont

NASHVILLE -- The Belmont volleyball team limited Morehead State to a .109 attack percentage and hit .243 en route to a 25-19, 25-22, 25-13 victory on Saturday afternoon at the Curb Event Center.

The Bruins improve to 5-10 overall, 1-1 in league play, 3-5 at home and 2-5 in the all-time series against MSU.  The Eagles slip to 0-15 overall, 0-2 in conference action and 0-5 on the road.

Belmont hit .259 in the opening set, .173 in the second stanza and .375 in the final frame.  The Bruins pounded 39 kills while limiting themselves to just 14 attack errors on 103 swings in the match.

Morehead State started at a .231 clip, but hit just .100 in the second period and was limited to even in the final set.  The Eagles recorded 30 kills, but were pinned with 20 attack miscues in 92 attempts.

Morehead State managed a 41-38 edge in digs and 4-3 upper hand in team blocks.  Belmont posted 36-28 advantage in assists and 4-0 upper hand in aces.  Both clubs committed eight service errors.

No player from either side notched double-figure kills.  Junior middle blocker Alex Martin collected a match-high nine for BU, while freshman outside hitter Alli Evans recorded a team-best eight for MSU.

Sophomore libero Hope Rillema paced the Eagles with 14 digs, to give her 45 total and 5.62 per set for the weekend, while freshman libero Ellie Ivancich stopped a team-best 10 attacks for the Bruins.

BU freshman setter Emma Price handed out 33 assists.  MSU split those duties, with no one above 13.  The match featured 23 ties, but just one in the final set, and eight lead changes.

Morehead State returns to Wetherby Gym on Wednesday when it hosts league rival Eastern Kentucky at 7 p.m. ET.  The match will be shown live on the OVC Digital Network.
