Volleyball Swept in Friday Doubleheader at Kent State

KENT, Ohio --
The Morehead State volleyball team dropped both of its Hampton Inn Golden Flashes Classic matches on Friday at the M.A.C. Center.  The Eagles suffered a 26-24, 25-12, 25-13 setback to New Hampshire in the opener and 25-20, 25-19, 25-18 defeat to host Kent State in the nightcap.

The Mid-American Conference Golden Flashes, who went 2-0 on Friday, improve to 4-1 overall.  The America East Conference Wildcats, who split two contests, move to 2-3 on the season.  The Eagles fall to 0-5.  MSU wraps up the tournament on Saturday with an 11 a.m. ET match against Evansville.

Junior middle blocker Brenna Buckwalter hammered nine winners and hit .500 for New Hampshire in the day's first match.  Senior middle blocker Laura McDermott paced Morehead State with eight smackdowns, while senior right-side hitter Alex Fitzmorris contributed a .400 attack percentage.

The Wildcats hit .299 for the match, including a .458 clip in the final set.  The Eagles hit .222 in the first stanza, but were held to .140 for the match.  MSU managed a 35-33 edge in kills, but UNH posted advantages of 38-29 in digs, 8-2 in aces and 7-2 in blocks.

Senior outside hitter Tinuke Aderemi-Ibitola collected nine kills and senior setter Jenny Buczek a match-best 30 assists for KSU in evening affair.  Junior middle blocker Hannah Sigala led MSU with eight successful attacks, while sophomore outside hitter Hope Rillema posted a match-high 11 digs.

The Golden Flashes hit .298 for the match, including a .407 clip in the final set.  The Eagles hit .200 in the final stanza, but just .126 for the night.  The hosts managed a 35-34 edge in kills, 5-1 upper hand in aces and 8-5 advantage in blocks.  The match featured 17 ties.

Sigala leads Morehead State through five matches with a .315 attack percentage, 3.28 points per set and 2.50 kills per set.  Sophomore defensive specialist Stacy Silver paces the Eagles with 2.33 digs per set, while McDermott tops the club with 0.94 blocks per set.
