Sigala records 13 kills in loss to Tennessee State

STATS

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. - Morehead State senior Hannah Sigala led the way with 13 kills, but it wasn't enough as the Eagles fell on the road to Tennessee Tech, 3-1. They lost 18-25, 25-18, 21-25, 17-25.

The loss moves Morehead State to 6-15 overall, and 3-4 in conference play.

"Tonight our first contact efficiency was not where it has been in recent matches," said head coach Jaime Gordon. "Unfortunately, we allowed that to impact too many other areas of our game. Tech did a good job of taking care of the ball and not giving us breaks when we were struggling."

Throughout the night, Tennessee Tech's extended runs continued to hamper Morehead State. In the first set, TTU utilizied a nine-point run to turn a MSU 5-4 lead into a 13-5 deficit. Then in the third, after the Eagles rallied in the second to even the match, Tennessee Tech put together a 10-2 run, and Morehead State's 11-9 lead became a 19-13 deficit.

Late in the third, MSU did mount a furious rally following an extended delay, nixing four straight match points, but TTU eventually took the set, 25-21.

Tennessee Tech then put together an 8-0 run in the fourth set to open a 12-6 lead and never looked back, taking the set, 25-17, and the match, 3-1.

Despite the loss, Sigala had an impressive night for MSU, adding five blocks to her 13 kills, while hitting .650. Junior Bailey Nichol also had a strong match for the Eagles, as she recorded a team-high 25 assists, while adding eight kills.

Morehead State has a quick turnaround as they now travel to Jacksonville State to take on the Gamecocks tomorrow at 3 p.m.

"We are going to need to pick up our execution tomorrow and I have all of the confidence that we will," said Gordon.
