Trio joins Eagle Cross Country/Track programs

MOREHEAD, Ky. – The Morehead State cross country and track programs have added three newcomers. Farah Abdulkarim has signed a National Letter of Intent to join the men's team, while Alison Chinn and Sierra Poppell have inked NLIs with the women's team.
 
Stephen Picucci is in his second season leading the Eagle runners.
 
Abdulkarim, a native of Ottawa, Canada, will enroll at MSU for the 2016 spring semester and begin his collegiate career with the Eagle track team. Chinn and Poppell will be freshmen starting in 2016-17.
 
Abdulkarim was the 2015 Canadian indoor champion in the 3,000-meter event and finished in the top 10 in that event at the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Association Championship. He has clocked personal bests of 9:13 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and 8:40 in the 3,000-meter open.
 
Chinn, whose parents are both Morehead State alums, prepped at Zane Trace High School in her hometown of Chillicothe, Ohio. On the track, she finished among the top five in the Scioto Valley Conference Championships in 3200-meter and 1600-meter in 2014 and 2015. Chinn finished in the top 12 at the district championships in 2013, 2014, 2015, helping her team qualify for the Ohio Regional Championships all three years.
 
Poppell is a native of Mt. Washington, Ky., where she attended Bullitt East High School. She finished fifth in the 3200-meter race at the Kentucky State Championships in 2015. Poppell won the Region 3-AAA 3,200-meter title in 2015. In cross country, she finished in top 12 three times at the Kentucky State Championships. Her best finish came in 2014 when crossed the line in sixth place.
