RICHMOND, Ky. - Junior Anna Magnusson shot 67-69 today and finished at 8-under (136) to claim the Bluegrass Fall Kickoff at the University Club at Arlington in Richmond, Ky. She was one of only three players to finish under par and won the event by three strokes.
"Anna played quite solid today," said head coach Stephanie Barker. "She put herself in great position and converted the majority of her great shots into birdies and even an eagle. I'm very excited for her. That she was able to shoot both rounds in the 60's today is just tremendous."
The tournament win marks Magnusson's first of her career and her round of 67 is a career-best. Prior to shooting 67 and 69 today, her previous low round was 71, which she has accomplished three times, most recently at the 2015 OVC Championship.
She is coming off of a season where she was named OVC Golfer of the Year. As a sophomore, she led the OVC with a 75.6 stroke average and her four top-five performances and seven top-10 efforts paced the way for the Eagles.
Morehead State (+14) finished third in the event, behind Eastern Kentucky (+9) and Western Kentucky (+10). Seniors Linnea Scholin (+5) and Katie Rice (+8), sophomores Sarah Debnekoff (+8) and Ebba Gustafsson (+8), and freshman Gabriela Villalba Arias (+8) all finished in the top 20 for MSU.
