TORONTO, Ont. - Former Morehead State center Chad Posthumus has signed a one-year contract with the London Lightning of the National Basketball League of Canada (NBLC).
Posthumus, a 6-11 center, played for three different professional teams last season. He played 16 games for Levanga Hokkaido Sapporo in Japan, where he averaged 10.1 points and 8.1 rebounds over 16 games. He then signed with the Mississauga Power, of the NBLC, where he averaged 24.3 points and 15.3 rebounds in three games. He closed out last season with Athletico Argentino Junin of the Argentinian Liga A., averaging 9.7 points and 4.9 rebounds
A native of Winnipeg, Manitoba, he started out at the University of British Columbia, before transferring to Howard College in Texas, and eventually closing out his collegiate career by playing his junior and senior seasons at Morehead State.
As a senior for the Eagles, he was the fourth leading rebounder in the country, averaging 10.9 per game. He led the country in rebounds per 40 minutes with 17.1. He averaged 9.6 points-per-game and was named to the All-OVC Third Team.
"I am excited to continue my basketball journey with the London Lightning organization," said Posthumus. "I think it is a great fit and my goal is to help them win a championship."
The London Lightning won NBLC Titles in 2012 and 2013 and are looking to return to Championship form under new head coach, Kyle Julius. Julius coached Posthumus during his brief stint in Mississauga last season and is confident that he can be an impact player throughout his first full season in Canada.
"Chad has a chance to be a very high level player," said Julius. "He was an immediate priority for us this offseason. The city of London will love his energy and positive approach to the game. We are fortunate to have him as one of our brothers."
