Men's Tennis falls on the road at Xavier, 5-2

CINCINNATI, Ohio -- Morehead State men's tennis continued its opening stretch of the season on the road with a 5-2 loss to Xavier at Brockhoff Tennis Facility on Friday night. The Eagles are now 0-2.
 
Doubles competition featured the Eagles winning two of the three matches. The second match to conclude went to junior Ritchie Kruunenberg and senior Gabriel Ruiz, taking down the pair of Matt Bishop and Zach Mueck, 7-6. The deciding match had senior Nick Mercer and sophomore Sebastian Penaloza defeating Arthur Stefani and Gabriel Araujo, 7-6. The pairing of freshman Ognjen Sunjevaric and senior Enrique Samudio fell in the opening match of doubles play, 6-3.
 
Ruiz was the only Eagle to win in singles competition, defeating Jeremy Schneider in three sets, 5-7, 7-6 (7-4), 10-6 on court two. Mercer took down Bishop in the first set 6-4 but fell in back-to-back sets, 6-2, 6-4. In Sunjevaric's second collegiate match, he won the second set 6-3, but fell in sets one and three, 6-3. Kruunenberg, Penaloza, and Samudio each fell in straight sets in their matchups.
 
MSU will now look ahead to next weekend when the squad travels to Michigan State for a Saturday evening slate set for 6 p.m. ET.
