MOREHEAD, Ky. - Following a 106-41 win in their regular season opener against Kentucky Christian on Friday night, Morehead State men's basketball hosts Lipscomb on Sunday afternoon at 4 p.m. ET.
The Eagles are looking to start the season at 2-0 for the first time since 2013-14. Lipscomb is also looking to move to 2-0 after downing Sewanee (Tenn.), 96-53, on Friday.
"We just need to take it one game at a time. Lipscomb is going to be a tough out, they shoot a lot of threes and they remind me of Belmont, so they'll be a good test early," said head coach
Sean Woods.
Sophomore
Malik Maitland led the way for the Eagles in the win over KCU. He knocked down three three-pointers and scored 12 points before the first media timeout, en route to leading Morehead State to an early 21-0 lead. He finished with a career-high 20 points, while shooting 7-of-9 from the floor and 5-of-6 from three-point range. He also had a career-high six steals.
"Malik is the straw that stirs the coffee and we're going to go as far as he takes us. The sky is the limit for him, he's a pretty talented player," said Woods.
After this weekend, the Eagles hit the road for three straight games away from Johnson Arena. They travel to Marshall on Wednesday, Nov. 16, Evansville on Saturday, Nov. 19, and Pittsburgh on Friday, Nov. 25. Morehead State then returns home to face Northern Kentucky on Wednesday, Nov. 30.
