MOREHEAD, Ky. – Morehead State women's basketball (3-1) continued its hot start to the season with a 77-43 rout of Miami (Ohio) (2-2) on Saturday afternoon at Johnson Arena.
"We felt like it would be a great game, and it really was very competitive," said head coach
Greg Todd. "Our defense led to offense, and everything really clicked for us."
The Eagles were led by the first double-double of the season from junior
Eriel McKee. The 5-foot-10 Lawrenceburg, Ky. native connected on three long-range field goals and finished with a game-high 19 points and 10 rebounds.
Morehead State also received a sizeable contribution from junior reserve
Brooke Todd, who set a new career-high in scoring for the second straight game. Todd tallied 12 points (on 6-for-8 shooting) and seven rebounds, while also blocking a career-best six shots over 25 minutes. The 6-foot-2 forward now leads the nation with 19 blocks on the season.
The Eagles led for the majority of the contest, but ended the third quarter with just a 43-37 lead. However, Morehead State closed the game with a 34-6 scoring output in the final period, including 18 points unanswered.
"We just caught fire," Todd said. "It was a great quarter for us. It was just one of those stretches where we couldn't do anything wrong."
After opening 2016-17 with four straight home games, the Eagles will travel 65 miles down I-64 for a road matchup with nationally ranked Southeastern Conference foe Kentucky before the Thanksgiving holiday.
"That will be a tough matchup," said Todd. "It's a fun atmosphere. We look forward to being there."
Morehead State will tip off at No. 15 Kentucky (4-0) on Tuesday, Nov. 23 at 7 p.m. ET.
