CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. - Sophomore
Merideth Jewell recorded 16 kills, but it wasn't enough as Morehead State volleyball fell at Austin Peay in four sets (22-25, 25-23, 19-25, 13-25).
With the loss, the Eagles move to 11-17 on the year and 7-7 in league play.
"Austin Peay is a good team and it's always tough to get big road wins in conference. I was proud of the way that our team fought back in the second set to get back in the match, but unfortunately we didn't produce enough points the rest of the way," said head coach
Jaime Gordon. "We'll get back in the gym this week to prepare for the end of the regular season next weekend in Nashville."
After falling in the first set, Morehead State trailed 21-18 late in the second set. But, they outscored the Governors 7-2 the rest of the way to win the set, 25-23. However, they were unable to win another set as they fell to Austin Peay in four.
Jewell's 16 kills came on 53 attempts as she hit .113 for the contest. She also ranked second on the team in digs with ten. Freshman
Karlee Reynolds finished with ten kills, while hitting .300, and a game after setting the program record with 11 block assists, sophomore
Maddie Fella led the team with five blocks.
Freshman
Danielle McCarson led the team with 19 digs.
Morehead State entered the contest ranked second in blocks and finished with ten as a team.
Next weekend, the Eagles wrap up regular season play when they travel to Nashville, Tenn. to face Tennessee State on Friday night at 7 p.m. and Belmont on Saturday afternoon 3:00 p.m. ET.
