KENNESAW, Ga. – Morehead State women's basketball (9-3) earned its fourth straight win by way of a 71-50 defeat of Kennesaw State (1-8) on Saturday afternoon at KSU Convocation Center.
The Eagles opened the game with 10 unanswered points, leading the contest in wire-to-wire fashion. 11 Morehead State contributors got in on the scoring action, while all 13 available players received playing time. Three scorers logged double-digit outputs.
"It was an awesome first half. We came out with so much energy," said head coach
Greg Todd. "We were able to get a lot of people in the game to get some experience."
Junior forward
Eriel McKee recorded her third double-double of the season, with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Senior
Aaliyah Wells scored 15 on 3-for-6 (.500) shooting from three-point land, and redshirt-sophomore
Darianne Seward amassed 12 points, four rebounds, and three assists in her first career start.
"Aaliyah's got her three-point shot down well. She had a solid performance," Todd said. "
Darianne Seward is going to be quite an asset. She's a very clever player."
Morehead State held the Owls to 16-of-55 (.291) shooting from the field, forcing 18 turnovers in the process. Junior reserve
Brooke Todd blocked three shots over 21 minutes, bringing her total to 40 blocks on the season.
After sweeping each decision of a three-game road trip, the Eagles will return home for a matchup with Canisius (2-7, 1-1 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference) on Monday at 5:15 p.m. ET.
