Eagles to host Asbury in final non-conference test on Wednesday night

MOREHEAD, Ky. - Morehead State men's basketball returns home to host Asbury on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. ET in their final non-conference test of the regular season.

The Eagles are 3-9 on the year and are coming off of a tough loss at Mississippi State that saw them lead the Bulldogs at halftime.

Following last week's win over Central Arkansas and the loss at Mississippi State, senior guard Xavier Moon was named OVC Player of the Week. He averaged 23.5 points, 8.0 assists, 6.5 rebounds and 2.0 steals per game while hitting 66.7 percent (18-of-27) from the field and 58.3 percent (7-of-12) from three-point range.

In the win over UCA, he recorded the first triple-double in school history with 25 points, 11 assists, and 10 rebounds, all of which were career highs. He was 9-13 from the floor and 5-6 from three-point range. It marked the 15th triple-double in OVC history.

Moon currently ranks third in the OVC in assist-to-turnover ratio (2.4) and eighth in scoring (15.2 points/game).

In addition, freshman guard Jordan Walker was named OVC Freshman of the Week after averaging 12.5 points and 2.5 rebounds per game off the bench last week.

Walker had a season-best 15 points on 4-of-7 three-point shooting in the win over UCA. He added 10 points and three rebounds at Mississippi State in 19 minutes.

The Eagles led 41-31 at halftime at Mississippi State prior to falling, 85-76. Morehead State is now 3-2 when leading at halftime and 0-7 when trailing after 20 minutes.

Morehead State tied a school record with 18 made three-point field goals vs. UCA. They shot 18-35 from deep. They also had 18 threes vs. Centre in 1995-96. They shot 9-19 from beyond the arc at Mississippi State.

Following a stretch where they played six of seven on the road, the Eagles are now in the midst of a stretch where they will play seven of nine at Johnson Arena. 

They open conference play on Saturday at UT Martin and their next four conference games will all be at home.
